With free flowing Cava, classic cocktails to boot and the kind of food that you almost feel guilty for enjoying, Bad Egg is not as the name suggests bad at all. This unsuspecting gem, located in the backstreets of Moorgate, is definitely one of the good eggs.
£35 here on a weekend will earn you the pleasure of unlimited Bloody Mary’s, Mimosa’s and Cava – in whatever order you please for a two hour sitting, along with three very satisfying tapas sized dishes off their mix and match brunch menu. I went for the fried chicken with caramelised banana and maple syrup on a toasted brioche, breakfast tacos with scrambled eggs, salsa and spicy guacamole, and the pulled pork on sourdough with ham hock infused beans and kimchi. My friends also ordered some of the other house favourites: sticky Korean rib tips and cheeseburger hash.
I was a little unsure about the caramelised banana and chicken combo at first, but it definitely proved to be amazing – the perfect mix of sweet and savoury. The breakfast pancakes whilst satisfying were not one for the record books. The pulled pork proved a solid choice with the powerful combination of ham hock infused baked beans and Korean Kimchi crashing together in your mouth. However it was the sticky Korean rib tips, that stole the show and had everyone begging for more. They were truly divine – a fatty, gingery, spicy treat to be savoured by all – just what the doctor ordered!
The atmosphere was electric, sometimes even deafening, buzzing with alcohol infused Londoners charging up before the evening of adventures that lay ahead. With classic diner style décor this bad egg is the perfect afternoon with friends catching up or that boozy second date.
